ADA, Ohio – Centre men's lacrosse dropped its second contest in a row Saturday afternoon, falling 14-9 to Ohio Northern at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Colonels (2-2) scored the first three goals of the game, but the host Polar Bears (3-0) turned the tides and held on to defeat Centre for the second time in the last three seasons.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre couldn't have asked for a better start to the game, as
Ridr Knowlton scored twice in the opening two minutes. Both came moments after
Dylan Croft won the faceoff, and were assisted by
Will Hubbs.

Noah Malubay converted an unassisted goal minutes later to give the Colonels a 3-0 advantage.
- The Polar Bears scored one before the end of the quarter to get on the board, and eventually flipped momentum with a five-goal second period. Malubay and Knowlton each scored during the quarter for Centre, but ONU scored twice in the final 20 seconds to lead 6-5 at the break.
- ONU began the third with two goals, but Knowlton and Hubbs had consecutive scores within a 42-second span to bring the Colonels back to a one-goal deficit.
- The home side reeled off four unanswered goals to gain a 12-8 advantage, stopped only by a tally from Hubbs seven seconds after a successful Croft faceoff.
- Malubay added a late score to mark his hat trick, but it wasn't enough as the Polar Bears denied a comeback attempt.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Knowlton's four goals were a career high for the sophomore and came on just six shots.
- Malubay's hat trick was the first of his collegiate career.
- Hubbs led Centre with five points on two goals and three assists.

David Caldwell recorded two helpers, while Croft and
Duncan MacDonald had one apiece.
- Ohio Northern held a slight 27-24 edge in ground balls. Croft had five to lead the Colonels, Caldwell had four, and
Ian Hubbs and
Gavin Fields finished with three each.
- Fields and
Will Morrison each had two caused turnovers.
- Centre totaled six minutes of penalties while ONU had zero.
