DANVILLE, Ky. – After taking down Rhodes last weekend, the Centre softball team (10-28, 4-14 SAA) looked to continue their momentum by taking down Sewanee on Saturday afternoon. After winning on Friday night, the Colonels would claim the victory in the series after splitting the day to end the regular season with double-digit wins.
GAME ONE: Sewanee 4, Centre 3
-
Kaylee Gregory was able to get the Colonels on the board in the first inning of action, creating a 2-0 lead with a single that drove home
Riley McCue and
Kaylen Storms.
- Searcy would have another great outing on the mound for the Colonels, pitching the first six innings including a fifth inning that caught two Tiger batters swinging.
- Storms would later drive in a fun off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth,
Alana Fullen tagging from third to home base to push the lead to three.
- The Tigers would find success in the seventh inning, their late-game rally totaling four runs for the win over Centre.
GAME TWO: Centre 9, Sewanee 7
- Sewanee was able to make the jump first with two runs in the opening inning of play.
-
Sam Rogers blasted a clean swing past the left center portion of the fence, the Paris, Ky., native hitting her second dinger of the season in the second inning.
- The two teams would trade blows, McCue cutting the Tiger lead back to one after a single to right center sent Gregory across home plate in the fourth inning.
- The Gold and White were able to surge with the lead in the sixth inning, their bats running hot with seven runs. Rogers would kick it all off with two more RBI's from a single that sent McCue and Gregory home.
- Fullen tossed a pitch to left center for extra bases soon after, the double pushes
Brylin Isaacs across the plate to take the lead.
-
Sawyer Lecius would get her name in the mix with straight-shot up the middle, the single driving in two more runs with Rogers and Fullen.
- Although the next two runs would come from outs, the Colonels reached their five-run lead to end the sixth with an RBI from
Abby Duncan and
Rylie Bentley.
- Sewanee tried to push another late-game rally with a couple runs in the top of the seventh, but the line out and a ground out to start the inning was too much pressure to take down the Colonels.
-
Lucy Baseheart would collect a fifth win on the season by pitching another complete game on the mound, her performance including a fourth inning that puts all three Sewanee batters into ground outs.
