Colonels open season with four-goal victory

DELHI, Ohio – After being slotted as the No. 14 program in Division III and picked to win the conference title in this season's Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Preseason Poll, the Centre women's soccer team (1-0) claimed a win against the Mount St. Joseph Lions (0-1) to open the season. The Colonels would run hot in the second half, the final score resulting in a 5-1 victory.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lions took the lead early, but Lindsay Carr would tie the game with a shot in the high left side of the net in the final minute of the first half. Annabel Justice would be the one to set up Carr's shot for the official assist.
- The Colonels would put up six more shots to start the second half before reaching the back of the net, Alexis Kronenthal breaking the ice with the goal to take the lead in the 65th minute.
- Less than three minutes later, a shot from the Gold and White reached high and right for the program's third goal of the contest, this time coming from Bella Nelson.
- Maggie Corbett would get her turn in the 71st minute of the game, the junior slamming a goal to the left side of the net. 
- Lydia Bowling would set up the final score of the contest, setting up a shot in the 74th minute for Lizzie Klehr to boot it on the upper-left side of the cage. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels showcased improvement compared to last season, their five-goal total surpasses their season opener against MSJ last season (two goals).
- Centre showcased five unique scorers during the contest, a feat they accomplished three times in the 2021 season last year.
- Senior goalkeeper Jonelle Barron helped the Colonels hold their lead as the final line of defense, facing eight shots and collecting four saves to kick off the season. 

UP NEXT
The Gold and White will make their way back down to Danville, Ky., for their next contest, hosting Rose-Hulman on Amend Field to kick off the weekend. The game will take place on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. ET.
