Centre edges out Fightin’ Engineers in home opener

DANVILLE, Ky. – The No. 14 Centre women's soccer team (2-0) played in their home opener on Saturday night, hosting Rose-Hulman (0-2). The Colonels' offensive pressure broke the Fightin' Engineers at Amend Field, the Gold and White securing the victory on a 1-0 score.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels kicked off the game with aggression, placing two corner kicks in the game's first 180 seconds of action.
- The Colonels held Rose-Hulman to no shots on goal compared to the Gold and White's two, both Megan Sidaway and Mills Mullen's fires resulting in saves for the Fightin' Engineers.
- Centre continued the pressure in the second half of the contest, 10 more shots coming from the legs of Colonel student-athletes. Maggie Corbett, Bella Nelson and Alexis Kronenthal all had on-goal attempts that came up as Rose-Hulman saves.
- The lone score that broke the ice result from a mistake on the FIghtin' Engineers in the 64th minute, pumping an own goal over the goalie's head to give Centre the lead.
- Rose-Hulman did capture one attempt at the Colonel's net, senior Jonelle Barron deflecting that shot for her one save of the night off the top right side.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels' aggression provided more shots that their previous contest, totaling 24 on the Fightin' Engineers' defense.
- The Gold and White's 12 corner kicks on Saturday is a statistical feat they achieved only three times last season.
- Saturday night's victory marks the second year in a row that head coach Jay Hoffman's team kicks off the season with a 2-0 record.
