LEXINGTON, Va. - Centre volleyball wrapped up another successful tournament with the second day of play at the Washington & Lee Invitational. The Colonels made quick work of both of their opponents in Saturday's doubleheader, defeating both Guilford and Southern Virginia in straight sets to extend their winning streak to seven games.
Game 1: Centre 3, Guilford 0
- The opening set of the day was back and forth for the opening half. With the score tied at 15-15, Centre came alive with a 5-0 run that included two kills by
Josie Grace-Mudd. The Quakers could manage just one point the rest of the way as Centre scored the last five points as well to take a 25-16 win.
- The second set played out in similar fashion, with Centre using a 5-0 run to break open a close contest.
Isabel Thornton had two of the five kills during the rally that put Centre up for good as the Colonels gradually extended their lead and cruised to an identical 25-16 victory.
- The Colonels completed their sweep in the third set as they took the early lead and kept it, going up by as many as 12 points at 19-7 before holding on for a 24-21 victory that was much easier on the nerves than last night's dramatic finishes.
Game 2: Centre 3, Southern Virginia
- The first set between the Colonels and Knights was extremely close, featuring five lead changes and 15 ties. SVU held a 21-19 lead before the Colonels called a timeout to regroup. Grace-Mudd cut the deficit in half with a kill, and then
Brooke Palmer put Centre on top with consecutive kills.
Lily Hendricks delivered two aces in a row and then Palmer slammed the door on the 25-21 comeback win with the final kill.
 - Centre used runs of 7-0 and 6-0 to break open the second set in the early stages. The Colonels had four aces in the set, with three coming courtesy of
Madi Barron. Centre never surrendered the lead after it was 3-2, rolling to a 25-11 win.
- In the third set, the Colonels used an 8-1 rally midway through to create distance. From there, Centre maintained the lead, going up by as many as eight points before
Isabel Thornton put home the match clinching kill on a 25-19 Centre victory.
