Colonels sweep Tigers for tenth win of season

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team improved to 10-3 on the year and 2-1 in the Southern Athletic Association as they had one of their best defensive performances of the season in a 3-0 sweep over the Sewanee Tigers.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The opening set of the contest was a close one as neither team was able to create much distance. Centre finally broke through with a 4-0 run capped off by an Isabel Thornton kill that put the Colonels on top for good as they held on for a 25-20 win.
- In the second set, Centre scored six straight points to overcome an early deficit and never looked back, leading by as many as seven before winning 25-19 as Thornton put home the final kill.
- Centre used an 8-1 run midway through the third set to take a 16-9 lead. The Tigers staged a fierce rally to cut the deficit to one point on four separate occasions, but the Colonels held them off each time as a kill from Emily Sullivan and an ace from Thornton put the finishing touches on a 25-22 victory to complete the sweep for the Colonels.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Rookie Ally Knueven established a new career high in kills, leading all players with 17. Thornton added ten kills as the Colonels held a ridiculous 50-23 advantage in kills.
- The Colonels also held a huge advantage in assists, 46-21 over the Tigers. Emily Gardner had a game high 24 assists, followed by Meredith Phillips with 19.
- Madi Barron led the Colonels with ten digs.

Centre volleyball will be back in action on Sept. 24 as they host the Rhodes Lynx in a conference showdown.
