Men’s soccer opens conference play against Oglethorpe

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's soccer team (0-6-2, 0-1 SAA) opened up the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Oglethrope (4-3-1, 1-0 SAA). The Stormy Petrels were able to best the Colonels at Amend Field on a final score of 2-1.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold and White were the first to get on the board, Luke Morgan scoring off an excellent pass from Jacob Sponel to give the Colonels the early lead in the 13th minute.
- The lead wouldn't last long, Oglethorpe evening the score at the 34th minute of the contest.
- The Stormy Petrels would claim the lead before halftime came around, scoring in the 44th minute of action.
- Centre came close to evening the score again in the 63rd minute of the game, Ethan Noel finding an on-goal shot that would eventually be saved near the middle of the net. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday marked not only Sponel's first assist as a Colonel, but also his first time in the starting lineup.
- Jaob Camacho's four saves totals the fourth time this season the junior has collected more saves than goals allowed.
- The Colonels' zero corner kicks is the first time this season they didn't record a statistic in that category. 

UP NEXT
The Gold and White will get a couple days of rest before they make their way to the next contest on their schedule, traveling to Berea, Ky., for a road contest. That game against Berea College will be on Monday, Sept. 26 kicking off at 7 p.m. ET.
