DANVILLE, Ky. – The No. 15-ranked Centre women's soccer opened up conference play on Saturday afternoon, facing off against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opponent Oglethorpe. The Colonels' second-half success surged them past the Stormy Petrels, claiming the win on a final score of 3-0.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold and White turned on their offense after the first 10 minutes of action, putting up six shots in the second set of 10 minutes.
Cara Francke took part in the offensive pressure, putting up three of those six shots.
- The Colonels broke through Oglethorpe's defense in the 36th minute, drawing a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick.
Maggie Corbett took the chance at the goal, scoring the team's first goal of the day.
- It wasn't long until Centre found shot to extend their lead,
Mills Mullen taking a shot to the high-right side of the net to put the score differential to two.
- The Colonels would put up one more goal in their conference opener, the final score coming from
Ava Priest. Priest's goal came off a pass from Mullen, her shot reaching the lower-left side of the net.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Priest goal in the 56th minute marks the first of her career, the sophomore already registering more minutes on the field than last season.
- The Colonels allowed a season-low zero shots-on-goal against the Stormy Petrels, the fifth time this season they've allowed two or fewer in a single contest.
- Mullen's goal and assist against Oglethorpe is the first three-point game for her this season, the sixth in her career.
- Centre women's soccer has opened the conference season with a win for the last seven seasons.
