DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team reached a dozen wins on the year as they pulled off a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Hendrix Warriors in Alumni Gym to improve to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre used an early 5-0 run to take the lead in the opening set following consecutive aces by
June Padilla. From there, the set was close the rest of the way, but the Colonels were able to hold the Warriors at bay every time, never relinquishing the lead. Holding onto a 23-21 edge,
Emily Sullivan and
Josie Grace-Mudd put home the final two kills on a close Centre victory, 25-21.
- In the second set, Hendrix held the lead for the majority of the action, going up by as many as four points at 16-12. Centre rallied to tie the score and then pushed forward with a 5-0 run late to retake the lead as
Meredith Phillips delivered a couple of stealth kills from the setter position during the rally. The Warriors fought off two set points, but Sullivan came through with the winning kill on the third as Centre took another close one by a score of 25-23.
- The third set saw Hendrix grab the lead early and extend the advantage to as many as seven points at 21-14. The Colonels staged a furious push at the end, fighting off three set points to cut the deficit to 24-23, but Hendrix scored the 25th point to extend the match by a set.
- The Colonels jumped out to a big lead in the fourth set, going up by nine points early at 11-2. Hendrix could get no closer than six the rest of the way as Sullivan and Grace-Mudd put the finishing touches on a 25-17 victory to take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sullivan led the Colonels with a career high 14 kills, with
Ally Knueven adding a dozen of her own.
- The Colonels held a 10-1 advantage in aces, led by Padilla and
Madi Barron with three each. Barron also finished with a game high 26 digs.
- After being outhit through the first three sets, the Colonels saved their best attack for last as they had 15 kills versus one error on 26 swings for a percentage of .538.

The season long six-game home stand will conclude on Tuesday as the Colonels will look for five wins in a row when the Franklin Grizzlies come to town for a non-conference matchup.
