DANVILLE, Ky. – The final game of the six-match home stand for Centre volleyball delivered late heroics as the Colonels went the distance with the Franklin Grizzlies, winning in five sets to improve to a 13-3 record on the year.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set of the contest saw Franklin hold the lead through much of it. The Colonels rallied midway through to tie the score at 17-17, but the Grizzlies scored the next six points to pull away to a 25-19 win.
- In the second set, the Colonels grabbed the early lead and kept it for the most part. Leading 21-17 late, Centre utilized a 4-0 run to put the set away and win 25-17 as
Emma Howell and
Meredith Phillips combined on a tandem block to score the final point for the Colonels.
- Centre got off to another hot start in the third start, taking a six-point lead at 14-8. The Grizzlies scored 11 of the next 12 points to retake the lead, and that run was enough to put them ahead for good as they won 25-20 after Centre fought off a handful of set points.
- The fourth set played out in a similar fashion to the third as the Colonels started strong once again before Franklin rallied to tie the game midway through. However, this time the Colonels pushed back and retook the lead, withstanding a late Grizzlies surge to extend the match with a 25-22 win.
- After pushing the match to the limit, the Colonels fell behind early in the fifth set, but rallied with five straight points as Franklin exhausted both of their timeouts.
Emily Goddin forced a match point with a kill to make it 14-9, and after the Grizzlies fought off two match points, the third attempt ended with a service error to seal the Centre victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Goddin, who missed the last three games, had a fine return to play with a game high 15 kills, one shy of a career high.
Ally Knueven had 13 kills for her third straight game in double digit kills.
Josie Grace-Mudd finished with ten kills, including three in the third set to spark the Centre comeback.

Madi Barron led all players with 19 digs, with
Hollye Tate adding a career high ten.
- The Colonels saved their best attacks for last, as they hit .227 in the fifth set compared to.100 for Franklin.
- With their 13th win of the year, the Colonels have guaranteed themselves a winning regular season for the second straight year.
