Late run costs Colonels in 81-77 loss at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA – The Centre men's basketball team went back and forth with the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels to open a four-game Southern Athletic Association road trip. Ultimately it was a 7-0 run at the end of the game that made the difference as the Colonels fell by a score of 81-77.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The first half belonged to the Petrels as Oglethorpe used their three-point shooting to open up a lead, taking their biggest advantage of the game at 21-12 near the halfway point of the half.
- Centre quickly responded as Drew Wilson kickstarted an 8-0 Colonels run that cut the deficit to a point, but the Petrels were able to hold the Colonels at bay for the rest of the half. Hunter Coleman hit a clutch three at the end of the half to cut the lead to 41-37 going into the break.
- The Colonels came out with guns blazing in the second half, taking the lead right away following a layup from Cade Stinnett and a three-pointer by Marshall Taylor. In an opposite of the first half, it was Centre who had an answer for every Oglethorpe rally in the early stages of the second half.
- Oglethorpe cut the Centre lead to two points on several occasions, but the Colonels were able to respond every time, extending the lead to seven points at 72-65 on a layup from Chez Moore.
- The Petrels had an answer for every Centre score down the stretch, and after Wilson hit two free throws to make it 77-74, Oglethorpe rallied to take the lead in the final minute and got a steal and score with 18 seconds to go to secure the victory.
