JACKSON, Miss. – Centre men's basketball battled back from a 12-point deficit to take the lead midway through the second half against the Millsaps Majors, but the offense faltered down the stretch as the Colonels fell by a score of 66-61.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre got off to a good start as they scored the first six points of the contest, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Carter Baughman.
- The Colonels held the lead for the majority of the first half before going cold in the final minutes, and the Majors took advantage, grabbing their first lead with four minutes to go and extending to a 33-28 edge at the break.
- In the second half, Millsaps began the action by picking up where they left off at the end of the first, taking their largest lead of the game at 45-33 right after the first media timeout.
- Centre battled back by attacking the rim and drawing fouls, getting into the bonus early, chipping away at the lead from the free throw line and finally regaining the advantage on free throws by
Drew Wilson.
- The game went back and forth for several minutes before Millsaps took the lead for good on a three with five minutes left. Centre had chances to get back in it, but failed to convert from the free throw line at critical times.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Wilson and
Cade Stinnett each finished with game highs of 15 points. Stinnett added a game high 12 rebounds to notch a double-double.
- The Colonels lived at the free throw line for the game, but struggled to make them all night long, going 22-38.
- Centre managed just one made field goal over the final ten minutes of the game.
