Colonels fall to Panthers in shootout, 94-89

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Centre men's basketball found itself in a shootout against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers on the last of their four-game road trip. The Colonels fell to the Panthers in a back and forth, high scoring matchup, 94-89.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Panthers grabbed the early lead in the opening minutes, but the Colonels caught fire from three-point range, taking their first lead on consecutive threes by Carter Baughman and Cade Stinnett.
- That burst was part of a 12-0 Centre run that allowed the Colonels to hold the lead for the rest of the first half. Centre extended the lead to as many as ten points on another Baughman three, one of eight makes from downtown in the half to lift Centre to a 49-42 lead at the break.
- In the second half, BSC came out on fire offensively and battled to tie the game on four separate occasions, but the Colonels fended them off each time, with Drew Wilson delivering clutch baskets to keep the Colonels on top.
- BSC finally managed to regain the lead late, but Baughman hit three more threes to put Centre back in front as the battle for momentum continued. The Panthers took the lead for good at 78-76 and hit a dozen free throws in the final three minutes to secure the win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Baughman delivered a game high and season high with 25 points. The Colonels finished with three 20-point scorers on the day as Wilson scored 22 and Stinnett scored 21.
- For the second game in a row, the free throw line made a huge difference. This time it was the Panthers who took advantage, making 30 free throws compared to Centre's 18.
- Centre's 89 points were a team high mark for the season.
