Stinnett nets career high 38 as Centre men defeat Rhodes 82-72

DANVILLE, Ky. – Cade Stinnett had the game of his young career on Friday as he scored a season high 38 points to lift the Centre men's basketball team to an 82-72 victory over the Rhodes Lynx inside Alumni Gym.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- Stinnett opened the scoring by burying a three on Centre's first offensive possession and scored seven of the Colonels' first nine points as both teams shot well in the opening minutes.
- The Lynx took their largest lead of the game at 20-14 at the halfway point of the first half. The Colonels chipped away at the free throw line and retook the lead at 26-25 as Stinnett got into the paint for another bucket.
- Trailing 31-28 at the last media timeout of the half, the Colonels went on a nice run as Noah Ring hit a three, Drew Wilson made two free throws and Stinnett converted again from downtown to put Centre on top by five. Another three from Ring propelled the Colonels to a 39-35 lead at the break.
- The opening minutes of the second half saw Rhodes battle back to retake the lead, but the Colonels were unfazed as Stinnett connected on a three-point play to put Centre ahead 48-42.
- Over the majority of the second half, the Lynx kept within striking distance, but Centre consistently held them at bay. Rhodes cut Centre's lead to three points on two occasions, but a Hunter Coleman jumper squashed the first rally and another three-pointer from Stinnett kicked off a 14-4 run that saw Centre go up by double digits for the first time.
- Centre took its largest lead at 76-60 on free throws from Ring, and although Rhodes cut the deficit back to single digits in the final minute, the Colonels made nine straight free throws to seal the win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Stinnett's 38 points were very efficient as he finished 12-17 from the field, 4-7 from three-point range and 10-13 from the free throw line.
- Ring and Wilson also finished in double figures as Ring scored 14 points and Wilson scored ten.
- At a point in the middle of the second half, 19 consecutive Centre points were scored by freshmen as they held of the hard-charging Lynx.
- The Colonels shot 54.3 percent as a team for the game, including an even 56 percent in the second half.
- Centre shot 24-29 from the free throw line for the game, including 12-13 in the second half and nine in a row to end the game.
