Colonels sweep Petrels for sixth straight conference victory

ATLANTA – Centre volleyball kept the hot streak going on Friday night as they knocked off the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels in straight sets for their sixth straight win and the fourth straight by a 3-0 margin. The Colonels improved to 13-6 overall with the win and 7-1 in conference play.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Colonels trailed early in the opening set before opening the floodgates with an 11-1 run that featured a pair of blocks and kills from Brooke Palmer and two aces by June Padilla. Centre never looked back after that run as Emily Goddin put the finishing touches on a 25-16 win with the clinching kill.
- The second set was more of the same as Centre broke open a close one with a 6-0 run and then won 25-17 as Palmer put home the clincher to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead in the match.
- In the third set, the Colonels held a slim lead for most of the frame before reeling off five straight and once again cruising to a 25-17 victory as Syd Bietz capped off another great night with the clinching kill.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Centre had one of the best offensive performances of the season as the Colonels hit .296 for the match, including a scorching .375 in the first set.
- Bietz led all players with 16 kills while hitting .375 for the match. Goddin hit a game high .562 with nine kills.
- Emily Gardner finished with 36 assists, recording a dozen more helpers than Oglethorpe did as a team while averaging a dozen per set to continue her insane assist pace in the month of October.
- Centre enjoyed a 68-57 edge in digs, with Madi Barron finishing with a game high 23. Madi Winfield and Gardner each finished in double digits in digs as well.
 
NEXT UP
 
- The Colonels will face a challenge on the final game of the road trip as they battle the no. 13 Berry Vikings in a Saturday clash of the top two teams in the conference.
