Colonels drop in overtime at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Centre field hockey traveled south after a two-week home stent. Facing Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Rhodes for the second time in just two weeks, the Colonels ultimately suffered their first conference loss during a singular, sudden death, overtime period.

The Colonels move to a 7-6 overall record and 5-1 in the SAA.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Rhodes opened the game's scoring during a penalty corner in the first period. Not even 30 seconds later, Centre's Maggie Will answered the Lynx with the evening goal. The next goal wouldn't come until the third quarter, halting the score at even ones entering halftime.

- Out of the break, the Colonels swiftly doubled their hold over the Lynx. Emily Ritchie initiated the second half with an unassisted goal five minutes in. Mirroring the first half, Rhodes evened the score less than a minute later, returning the game to a tie. Neither team would manage an additional goal before regulation ran out, sending the game into sudden death.

- The Lynx quickly opened the overtime period with a quad of shots on frame, but Carlie McKenry would keep the Colonels alive, denying every attempt. Centre would counter with a pair of penalty corner opportunities but with just four minutes left in the overtime period, the Lynx would set in the game winning goal, advancing the final score to Rhodes three, Centre two.
