Men’s soccer takes thrilling comeback win

JACKSON, Miss. – Centre men's soccer fell behind by two goals before mounting a three-goal comeback to defeat Millsaps 3-2 in the final regular-season Southern Athletic Association (SAA) road match of 2023. 

The Colonels' record sits at 6-6-3 overall and 2-1-3 in the SAA after the conference victory. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS 
- The first half was all Majors in the scoring column despite Centre leading in shots 10-4 and having one more corner than Millsaps. The home team led 2-0 over the Colonels at the half. 
- Centre scored its first goal in the second frame. A corner from the Colonels landed inside the goal area in a scrum. The ball found the feet of John Palomino before Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta used his head to tally a goal in the 54th minute.  
- A goal for the Gold & White in the 64th minute tied things up 2-2. An Everett Hauser corner kick allowed Matthew Seran to leap up and score with a header. 
- The Colonels were awarded a penalty kick in the 78th minute that was taken by John Palomino. The freshman sent the ball into the right corner of the goal to score what ended up being the game-winning goal. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Sunday marked the third time this season that Centre has scored three goals in a match. 
- The Colonels held a large advantage in shots (27-7) and shots on goal (11-2) in the matchup of SAA squads. Centre also had 11 corner kicks to the Majors' one. 
- Three members of the Gold & White team led the match with five shots each. John Palomino, Sam Brunner, and Matthew Seran had those tallies. Seran led in shots on frame with three 
- A total of two keepers saw time in goal for the Colonels. Jacob Camacho played the first 32:07 before Brendan Egan subbed in for the final 57:53.

Centre hosts the team's final regular-season match at home. Sewanee and the Colonels will meet at Amend Field on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
