DANVILLE, Ky. – On Wednesday evening, Centre field hockey took to South Turf for their last, home Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest of the 2023 season. Hosting Sewanee, the Colonels found three different scorers for their five goals, downing their SAA foe by a score of 5-1. After their latest victory, the Gold & White improved to an 8-8 overall record and 6-1 in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
-The Colonels controlled the game from the start, taking 7 shots in the first period while the Tigers wouldn't muster one. Opening the second quarter, Centre's Hannah Miller initiated the game's scoring with her first collegiate goal just before halftime.
- Out of the break, Claire Mechlin quickly doubled the Colonels' edge, scoring her first collegiate goal during a penalty corner. Minutes later, the Tigers cut the score deficit in half with their first and only goal of the game. By the end of the third period, Miller added another point for the Colonels when Claire Martin found her sitting goal side for an easy tip-in.
- Opening the fourth quarter, Miller solidified her first career hat-trick when she set in her third goal of the match. With the score reading Centre four, Sewanee one, seniors Alex Shelley and Meghan Speth teamed up for the Colonels' final goal. Shelley sent the ball to the back of the cage with the helper from Speth, bringing the final score to Centre five, Sewanee one.

- Miller led the game in goals with three. Mechlin and Shelley followed just behind with one goal apiece.
- Martin was the game's leader in assists with two.
- Olivia Ruth was the game's leader in shots on goal with four.
- Two Colonels, Mechlin and Miller, both collected their first career goals in tonight's game.
- The Colonels dominated offensively, attempting 35 shots while the Tigers took one. In goal, Carlie McKenry faced zero shots on frame from her opponents.
- Centre was awarded nine penalty corner opportunities while their opponents had zero.
