Centre overpowers Tigers on the road

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre field hockey team traveled to Sewanee for their final Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest of the 2023 regular season. Meeting again less than a week since their first contest, the Colonels completed the season series sweep as they defeated the Tigers for a second time. At the end of regulation, the score read 5-2, Centre favoring.  

GAME HIGHLIGHTS    

- Centre's Meghan Speth initiated the game's scoring less than a minute into the contest. In the very next possession, Sewanee answered with an evening goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Colonels found their second goal in Claire Martin midway through the first period, returning the one-point lead to Centre entering the next quarter.  

- Maggie Will joined the scoring column with an unassisted goal to initiate the second period. Similar to the first quarter, the Tigers answered shortly after. Closing the first half's scoring, Martin claimed the Gold & White's fourth goal when she sent a long ball streaking to the back of the Tiger's cage.  

- Out of the halftime break, neither team would record an additional goal until the fourth period. Jackie Rodriguez broke the silence with the game's final goal during a penalty corner. At the end of regulation, the score closed at 5-2, the Colonels favoring. 

  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE    
- Martin led the game in goals with two. Speth, Rodriguez, and Will followed just after with one apiece. 
- In goal, Carlie McKenry collected two saves. She faced six shots from the Tigers.
 - Centre dominated offensively, taking 22 shots compared to the Tiger's six.  
- The Colonels were awarded six corners. Sewanee collected one.

Field hockey will return home for their last regular season game of the season. They host Earlham on Saturday, Oct. 28th, at 1:30 p.m. ET.
