Centre volleyball hits 12 SAA wins with sweep at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. – The Centre volleyball team wrapped up Southern Athletic Association play and tied a school record with their 12th conference victory of the year, improving to 12-2 in the league and 18-7 overall with a 3-0 win at Hendrix on Sunday afternoon.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Hot starts were the key for Centre in all three sets as they opened the game with the first five points. The Colonels led by as many as 12 points at 22-10 before holding off a late Warriors charge to take a 25-20 win.
- The second set saw the Colonels have one of their best hitting periods of the season as they took the lead for good following an early 7-0 spurt. Hendrix again rallied late to cut the margin to five, but it got no closer as Centre won 25-18.
- In the third set, Centre scored five of the first six points, only for Hendrix to claw back and take the lead at the midway point. With the score tied at 15-15, Centre reeled off four in a row, and when Hendrix cut that deficit to 22-20, a kill by Brooke Palmer prompted a 3-0 run to finish the game for a 25-20 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Syd Bietz led all players with 11 kills.
- Every Centre player with at least ten attacks finished with a hitting percentage over .200, led by Palmer at .238. The Colonels hit .221 as a team for the match, including .387 in the second set.
- Emily Gardner recorded a game high 31 assists, five more than Hendrix had as a team.
- Madi Barron finished with a game high 15 digs and is now 38 away from the 25-point era school record.
