Colonels knock off Panthers for fourth straight win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Centre volleyball began the longest road trip of the season as they played the first of four consecutive away games against the always tough Panthers from Birmingham-Southern. The Colonels earned their fourth straight win on the year as they took out the Panthers in straight sets.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels played well in the opening set, grabbing the early lead and never letting the Panthers get over the hump. With the score tied at 12-12, Centre unleashed a 7-0 run that was the difference in the set as they pulled away to a 25-19 victory.
- The second set was very closely contested, with neither team leading by more than three at any point. The teams battled back and forth, with BSC fighting off the first set point. The Colonels were faced with their own set point at 25-24, but Brooke Palmer tied it up with a clutch kill, and then Emily Goddin delivered consecutive kills for a 27-25 win that gave Centre a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Looking to complete the sweep, the Colonels led for most of the third set. BSC rallied to take a late lead at 20-18, but Centre responded with five straight to take back the lead for good. Abby Swartz put home the final kill in a 25-22 victory to secure the match for the Colonels.
