DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre field hockey opened their fall break on South Turf, hosting Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Concordia for their first of two, back-to-back home games. Placing a trio of unanswered goals, the Colonels blanked the Falcons by a score of 3-0.
After Saturday's win, Centre field hockey remains undefeated in the league and improves to a 6-5 overall record.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
-The Gold & White immediately controlled offensively, taking 17 shots to the Falcons' singular attempt. Although favoring in both corner opportunities (5) and shots taken, Concordia's keeper would render the Colonels scoreless, halting the score at 0-0 entering halftime.
- Out of the break, Centre was the first to register a goal when Peyton Gahm swiftly opened the second half during a penalty corner play, the assist coming from Emily Ritchie. With Centre now leading, Meghan Speth quickly doubled the score deficit during another penalty corner minutes later. By the end of the third period, Centre held a two-point advantage over their SAA foe.
- The game's fourth quarter matched the first half as both teams struggled to find the back of cage. Jackie Rodriguez eventually broke the silence with a buzzer beater, closing the final score at Centre three, Concordia zero.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre owned all three of the game's goals, each coming from a different athlete. Gahm was the first in the scoring column followed by goals from both Speth and Rodriguez. Rodriquez's point was her first of the season while Speth brings her count to four and Gahm brings her's to two.
- In goal, the Falcons collected a total of 17 saves while Carlie McKenry denied all five of Concordia's shot attempts.
- The Colonels led the game in both shots taken (26) and penalty corners (12).
