DANVILLE, Ky.- On Saturday, the Centre women's basketball team hosted Warren Wilson for the final game of the 2023 Lee's Famous Recipe and Hampton Inn Classic. Stretching their lead to 29 before halftime, the Colonels remain undefeated as they closed the final score at 90-39.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre's Anna Thomas initiated the game's scoring with a long ball just minutes into the game. The Owls quickly answered and by the first quarter's media time out, the game was tied at even sevens. After the break, rookie Lilly Reid ignited. Flanking a made jumper by Natalie Duggins, Reid alone, tallied four unanswered buckets to close the period.
- Heading into the second quarter, the Colonels held a ten point advantage over the Owls. Bailey Rucker quickly drained a three to open the period but just like quarter one, Warren Wilson responded just after. Midway through the period, the Gold & White began to trail away from their opponents. An opposing technical granted four free-throws to the Colonels that initiated a 13-5 scoring run. Closing the first half, the score read 44-15, Centre favoring.
- The Colonels carried their momentum into the second half, opening with a 13-2 run that forced the Owls to burn a timeout. After the break, Katelyn Stiltner struck hot with a pair of jumpers. Reid followed suit with another basket that would bring the score to 66-30 entering the fourth period.
- Centre's final quarter proved to be a freshman affair as all 24 points came from rookies. Lindsay Jessie initiated the trend as she alone opened Centre's scoring with eight consecutive points. Kylie Floyd joined the action with a made free-throw and just after, Sophia Richardson claimed her first career three, adding two more later in the period. Floyd concluded Centre's scoring, netting a lay-up for their 90th point. The Owls ultimately closed the score at 90-39 with a late lay-up.
