DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's basketball team played the final home game of the calendar year on Tuesday night as the Colonels hosted the Franklin Grizzlies. Thanks to the best offensive night of the young season, the Colonels defeated the Grizzlies 95-85.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first half featured strong offensive performances by both teams. The Grizzlies took an early 15-7 edge on hot three-point shooting, but the Colonels clawed back with a run that included a 30-footer off the glass from
Cade Stinnett to beat the shot clock, eventually taking the lead at 30-27 on a three from
Izayiah Villafuerte.
-
Chez Moore provided a spark for Centre late in the first half, getting a putback on a missed free throw, forcing a steal and feeding Villafuerte on the break for a streaking layup that gave the Colonels their largest lead at 45-39. The Grizzlies made a three at the buzzer to make it 45-42 at the break.
- The start of the second half featured continued hot shooting. The Grizzlies, who shot 75 percent from long distance in the first half, stayed hot from three and cut the Centre lead to 54-53, but the Colonels went on a nice run to extend to a 67-57 lead with Moore and
Riley Mastin making huge contributions in the rally.
- The Grizzlies rallied again at the halfway point of the half and cut the deficit to a single basket on three straight times, but Centre had an answer each time. Five straight points from Stinnett brought the Centre lead to 81-74 and Franklin could get no closer than six the rest of the way thanks to excellent free throw shooting.
