MARYVILLE, Tenn.- The Colonels continued their road stretch, traveling to Tennessee for their final contest before the holiday break. Taking the lead early, Centre fended off the Scots' fourth quarter revival, improving to 9-1 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
-The opening quarter was evenly matched as the lead changed five separate times. Bailey Rucker and Natalie Duggins highlighted the Colonels' first period scoring, allowing the Gold & White to possess a one-point edge entering period two.
- Emma Rose Vincent opened with a quick jumper seconds into the next period. Following free-throws from Makya Grinter and Rucker handed Centre their largest lead yet (+5). The Colonels maintained their hold for the remainder of the half but not by a large margin. Late free-throws paired with a jumper from Vincent moved the score to 36-29 entering halftime.
- Two minutes into the second half, Centre stretched the point deficit to double figures. The Scots quickly landed in foul trouble, allowing the Colonels to further extend their hold at the charity line. After nearly four minutes of silence, Maryville began to inch their way back into the game with successive threes. Heading into the fourth, Centre led 57-44.
- The Scots continued to chip away at Centre's hold throughout the final period. The Colonels found a majority of their points at the line while Maryville would respond from the paint. Nearing the final three minutes, the Scots came within six after an 8-0 scoring run. Grinter broke the streak with a jumper and a connected free-throw. Vincent concluded the game's scoring with a pair of made free-throws, locking-in a final score of 70-61, Centre favoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rucker led the game in points with 20 while Grinter and Vincent followed closely after. Vincent tallied 16 after shooting 50 percent from the paint, adding a perfect 100 percent from the line. Grinter collected 12 points, adding two assists.
- Centre just edged the Scots out in rebounds, taking 38 to their 33. Vincent led the court with ten.
- Natalie Duggins led the game in blocks, stuffing Maryville twice.
- The Colonels favored in second chance points with 16.
