Centre men fall to Randolph at Wayne Proffitt Classic

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Centre men's basketball team played the second of two games at the Wayne Proffitt Classic at Lynchburg University. The Colonels fell to the Randolph Wildcats by a score of 74-65.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- Chez Moore scored the first eight points for the Colonels as the two teams battled back and forth to start the game.
- The Colonels got a spark off the bench from Noah Ring and Jaxson Banks to take the first early lead of the first half.
- Over the last three minutes and change of the half, the Colonels outscored the Wildcats 12-4, doing most of their damage at the free throw line. A pair of Moore free throws closed the half as Centre took a 35-26 lead at the break.
- To open the second half, the Wildcats chipped away at the Centre lead, cutting the deficit to two at 47-45. From there, Centre responded in a big way, scoring the next 11. Cade Stinnett and Izayiah Villafuerte bookended the run with threes to give the Colonels their largest lead at 58-45.
- Randolph had the counterpunch as the Wildcats hit four consecutive three-pointers to narrow the gap to a point with less than eight minutes to go. After falling behind for the first time since early in the first half, Stinnett put the Colonels back on top with a clutch three. Several lead changes and ties followed, with Stinnett knotting the game at 65-65 with a runner. From there, Randolph outscored Centre 9-0 the rest of the way, sealing the win from the free throw line.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Moore led all players with 20 points and paced the Colonels with ten rebounds for his second double-double of the year before fouling out. Ring had a season high 14 points off the bench, while Stinnett added 13 and three steals.
- The glass was a big factor in the game as Randolph held a 49-33 advantage over Centre on the boards.

The next matchup for Centre men's basketball will be a battle of Colonels as the team travels to Daytona Beach, Fla. to face the Wilkes Colonels.
