Men's basketball gets first road win of season at Berea, 68-62

BEREA, Ky. – The Centre men's basketball team bounced back on the road as they used a strong second half to knock off the Berea Mountaineers by a score of 68-62.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The first half belonged to the defenses as both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket, with the Mountaineers leading 12-9 at the halfway point of the half.
- Cade Stinnett and Riley Mastin combined for eight straight points to give Centre its largest lead of the half at 19-13. Berea clawed back and the lead switched hands several times for the remainder of the half, with Centre taking a 27-25 lead at the break thanks to a late three-pointer from Stinnett.
- To start the second half, Centre and Berea kept the back-and-forth battle going with more lead changes and ties. Trailing 41-38, the Colonels went on a nice run. Noah Ring made a pair of free throws. Caleb Maul got a bucket inside and then found Carter Baughman for a jumper after an offensive rebound. Jumpers from Baughman and Stinnett and a layup from Mastin put Centre on top 50-44.
- Twice down the stretch the Mountaineers cut the Centre lead to two points. Each time, Stinnett made a big play, first feeding Mastin for a dunk late in the shot clock, then getting a putback on a missed three.
- After battling foul trouble for most of the game, Chez Moore took over the last three minutes, scoring eight straight Centre points, including a pair of three-point plays that helped ice the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Two Centre players finished with double-doubles. Stinnett led the Colonels with 21 points and had a season high 11 rebounds. Mastin added a dozen points and tied a career high with 15 rebounds. Moore's late scoring outburst ended his night with 12 points.
- The Colonels held a 49-35 advantage on the glass against the Mountaineers.
- Centre held Berea to 28 percent shooting in the first half while shooting 52 percent in the second half to help secure the win.
- The game featured eight ties and 14 lead changes, but Centre held the lead for the final 11 minutes of the game.
