DANVILLE, Ky. – After falling behind by 14 points early in the second half against no. 25 Berry, Centre men's basketball staged a comeback with a barrage of three-pointers to cut the deficit to two points, but the league-leading Vikings pulled away to a 77-68 win on Centre's Senior Day.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams leaned heavily on the three in the first half as the defenses guarded the rim well and forced abnormally low percentages on layups.
- A pair of threes from
Carter Baughman and another from
Noah Ring kept the Colonels within striking distance, but the Vikings went on a run in the final six minutes, outscoring Centre 13-2 down the stretch. Free throws from
Cade Stinnett and
Blake Stewart narrowd the lead to 33-23 at the break.
- Five minutes into the second half, Berry took its largest lead of the game at 44-30. Stinnett began to aggressively attack the basket and draw fouls, scoring five straight to get the Colonels back in it. Stewart and
Chez Moore converted a couple of tough layups in traffic to narrow the gap to 52-44.
- Halfway through the half, Stinnett pulled up from NBA range and buried a long one.
Marshall Taylor did the same on Centre's next possession and the lead had been cut to 52-50.
- Following a Berry timeout, the Vikings scored on four of their next five trips down the court to go back up by nine, and the Colonels could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stinnett led all players with 18 points, including 14 in the second half. After missing most of the first half in foul trouble, Taylor scored all 13 of his points in the second half.
- After shooting 26 percent in the first half, the Colonels went 17-33 from the field for 52 percent in the second half. They hit 40 percent from three-point range in both halves.
