SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre men's basketball team fell behind early in the first half against the Sewanee Tigers before making a game of it right before halftime and in the early minutes of the second half, but they could not get enough stops to stay within striking distance as they fell by a score of 81-72.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening minutes of the first half belonged to the offenses as both teams shot lights out.
Cade Stinnett was the main aggressor for the Colonels as he scored the first five points and Centre went up 10-5 on a three-pointer from
Carter Baughman.
- Midway through the half, the Colonels went cold while the Tigers maintained the hot shooting and went up by as many as 13 points. Centre chipped away as the first half continued.
Blake Stewart scored seven straight points, and then another Baughman three cut the deficit to 35-32. Sewanee went into the locker room up by a score of 38-34.
- Centre carried the momentum through the break into the second half.
Marshall Taylor scored seven straight Centre points, while Stinnett drove into traffic and scored to make it a 46-43 Sewanee lead.
- From that point, Sewanee had an answer for every Centre comeback attempt, going up by as many as 14 points as the Colonels could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stinnett led the Colonels with 22 points and led all players with 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double in conference play.
- Stewart came off the bench for a dozen points, recording a career high for the third consecutive game. Centre held a 23-2 edge in bench points.
- The Colonels outrebounded the Tigers 40-39 and finished with a season high 11 steals, led by
Chez Moore with four.
