Centre women's basketball dominates the Tigers in final game of the regular season

SEWANEE, Tenn. – On Wednesday evening, Centre women's basketball closed the 2023 regular season in Sewanee, Tenn. Scoring consistently, the Colonels took home a 60-39 victory over the Tigers, improving to an 18-7 overall record. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Sewanee grabbed the first basket of the game, hitting an early jumper in their first possession. Centre responded with three quick jumpers of their own, putting the Colonels ahead early. Nearing the end of the period, Anna Thomas concluded a 9-0 score run with a long ball that put the Colonels up by 12 entering the second quarter.
- Taylor Garrett owned six of the Colonel's eight initial points of the second period. The Tigers would hold Centre scoreless for several minutes but a three-pointer from Natalie Duggins would give the Colonels a 16-point edge entering the third quarter.  
- Out of halftime, the two teams traded baskets before Centre extended their lead with a 7-0 run. By quarter's end, the Gold & White captured their largest lead yet, entering the final quarter 20 points ahead. 
- In the fourth period, Centre maintained their consistency on the offensive end. Abigail Taylor stretched the Colonel's lead to 24 after netting her first career long-ball. Rookie Leah DeLeon closed Centre's scoring, following up with block that set the final score at Centre 60, Sewanee 39. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Natalie Duggins led the Gold & White on both coasts. The junior preformed a double-double after taking ten rebounds and adding 15 points. 
- Payton Herold was the other Colonel in double figured points. She had ten points, adding a steal and an assist. 
- The Colonels outrebounded the Tigers by ten. Of their 11 offensive rebounds, Centre turned 12 second chance points.
- The last time Centre women's basketball won the SAA regular season title was in the 2012-2013 season. 

UP NEXT
Centre women's basketball will host the SAA Quarterfinal as the top seed. The Colonels will turn-around to face the Tigers yet again, on Sunday, February 19th, at 2 p.m. ET.
