DANVILLE, Ky. – On Sunday evening, the Centre women's basketball team hosted Sewanee in the SAA Quarterfinal matchup. After eliminating the Tigers by a score of 59-47, the Colonels will enjoy a home court advantage for the reminder of the SAA Tournament.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Two minutes in, Sewanee opened the scoring with a jumper in the paint.
Piper Hensley grabbed the next basket, netting a long ball to put the Colonels ahead. A series of free throws paired with a three-points put the Tigers ahead before
Taylor Garrett ignited an 11-3 score run for Centre.
- Sewanee quickly evened the score in the second quarter with a basket from underneath. For five minutes, the two teams trade a three-point lead before Mayka Grinter tallied four points consecutively.
Bailey Rucker and
Natalie Duggins added to Grinter's baskets, giving Centre the edge entering halftime.
- In the third quarter, the Colonels took their largest lead yet after Rucker score seven consecutive points. Grinter and
Payton Herold extended Centre's lead to 13 entering the final quarter.
- The fourth period proved to be both team's best quarter offensively. Already in a 13-point advantage, the Colonel's 16 points in the final quarter warded off any hopes of a Tiger comeback.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rucker led Centre's offensive. Collecting 17 points, she was the game's top scorer. Grinter was the next Colonel with double-digit points. She sank 13 points, adding six rebounds, and went 7-7 at the line.

Natalie Duggins led the game in rebounds after collect 13.
- Herold lived up to the title of leading assister in the league. Collecting four, she was the game's leader in assists.
- After going 9-9 at the line, Centre women's basketball preformed a perfect 100 percent in free-throws.
