DANVILLE, Ky. – On Wednesday evening, the Centre women's lacrosse team opened their 2023 season with a dominant performance. The Colonels overwhelmed the Hanover Panthers by a score of 20-1, improving to 1-0 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels came out firing, controlling the ball most of the the opening quarter.
Lily Gahm opened the game's scoring, possessing a hat-trick in the Colonel's first four possessions. Six minutes in, Gahm earned her 100th career goal, placing one on frame with the assist from
Ella Treinen. Centre would go on to land six more unanswered goals before quarter's end.
- Opening the second period, Centre held a 10-point advantage over the Panthers, putting the game into running clock. By end of half, six different Colonels got on the board, two of which earned their first career goals. Rookie
Gracie Garner tallied two in the opening quarter while freshman
Colleen Stahl found hers late in the second off a pass from
Addie Lewis.
- Hanover opened the second half's scoring, landing their first goal during a man-up opportunity. Centre quickly answered, finding another goal in Garner. Continuing their domination, Centre added three additional Colonels to the scoring column by game's end. Of those athletes, two more first years tallied their first career goals.
Olivia Sweasy got on the board in the third while
Erin Reynolds placed the game's final goal during a man-up opportunity.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gahm fronted the Colonels with five goals.
Haley Rice followed just behind her with four.
Mary Margaret Bryant and Garner both took a hat-trick while Reynolds, Stahl, Aug, and Lewis both landed one apiece.
- Treinen and Reynolds finished as the top-assisters with three each.
- Centre outshot the Panthers 30-7 and held a 21-11 edge in ground balls.
- In goal,
Gracey Falk tallied two saves and led the Colonels to 8 of 10 successful clears.
