MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Centre softball team (2-4) started their second-straight three-team weekend on Saturday afternoon, traveling south to compete against Fontbonne and Huntingdon. The Colonels split the day against the two teams, beating the Griffins on a 5-3 final score but falling to Huntingdon 9-0.
GAME 1: Centre 5, Fontbonne 3
- The Gold & White would get into striking distance early in the game,
Abby Duncan reaching first on a walk in the game's first at bat, then stealing two bases to hit the opposite end of the field at third base.
- Fontbonne would score in two-consecutive innings, both being sacrifice flies to get a two-run lead by the third inning.
- Freshman
Emily Lammers would slam a hit to right field, not only reaching second base but driving in
Cheney Floyd and
Sunnie Woske to tie the game in the fifth inning.

Andrea Searcy would send Lammers across home plate in the very next at-bat, the junior getting her third RBI so far this season to help the Gold & White claim the lead.
- Soon after in the top of the sixth, the Griffins were able to tie the game.
- After Lammers reached second and
Taylor Webb got on first in the top of the seventh,
Hailey Watson's single would drive both baserunners home to pick up a two-run lead heading into the final half-inning.
- After Fontbonne's leadoff hitter would reach first base, pitcher
Lucy Baseheart would force three-straight groundouts to close the game and claim her first win of the year.
GAME 2: Huntingdon 9, Centre 0 (5 inn.)
- The Colonels were able to get a runner in scoring position early,
Tori Candler putting a double in center field in the game's first inning.
- Huntingdon scored three runs later in the bottom of the second inning, claiming the lead in the game.
- The lead would extend to nine in the fifth inning, Centre not able to earn a run before the run-rule activated.

The Gold & White will face off against the two teams one more time this weekend, playing against them on Sunday, Feb. 19 before their stretch of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series. They'll face off against Fontbonne first at 12 p.m. ET, and then after a short break they'll face off against Huntingdon at 4 p.m.
