Colonels sweep Lynx to kick off SAA play

DANVILLE, Ky. – After competing in two double-header days in Alabama last week, the Centre softball team (4-6, 2-0 SAA) started this weekend with a pair of games against the Rhodes Lynx. The Colonels earned a series win against the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opponent for the second season in a row, sweeping Rhodes on the first day of the two team's three-game set.

GAME ONE: Centre 8, Rhodes 4
- Freshman Emily Lammers took her first at-bat of the day as best as you can get, sending a two-run homer to center field in the first inning to bring in Tori Candler and jump out for an early lead.
- The scoring wouldn't stop there, Rylie Bentley doubling out to left-center field right after Andrea Searcy sent a pitch out to center field on a double of her own.
- Centre would put together five more runs in the bottom of the second inning, including a sacrifice fly by Candler that brought in Abby Duncan.
- The Gold & White would find another long ball from Searcy, reaching center field for the Colonels' second home run of the game to push an eight-run lead.
- Rhodes would score a handful of runs up through the other five innings of play, bringing the score 8-4 in Centre's favor.
- After starting pitcher Lucy Baseheart would complete a strong five-inning outing with four strikeouts against the Lynx, Kaylee Gregory would come home with the final two innings that included a 1-2-3 seventh inning to clinch the win.

GAME TWO: Centre 9, Rhodes 1 (5 innings)
- Searcy would give the Lynx déjà vu with a second-straight game of Centre sending a pitch across the fence in the first inning, putting together a grand slam to bring Lammers, Candler and Duncan around the bases with her.
- Rhodes would strike back in the third inning, putting a run on the board to shorten the Colonels' lead.
- Five more runs would come way for the Gold & White in the bottom of the fourth inning, Layne Ogle rushing home off a grounder from Duncan. Izzy Rushing would also slide home in the very next at-bat in another ground ball play, Bentley sending a single down the third base line to bring home Lammers and extend the lead to six.
- Lydia Rice would pinch hit for the Colonels in her first at-bat of the day, making the most of it with a double to center field that brought home both Bentley and Searcy.
- Searcy would throw all five innings for the Colonels on the mound, earning her first win of the season with three strikeouts along the way in 58 pitches.
- Searcy's two home runs on Saturday would mark the third time in her Centre career that she's sent a long ball in back-to-back contests.
