MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Colonels traveled south to take on Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Rhodes College. After a second-half rally, second place Lynx took down the Colonels by a score of 53-43.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In the opening minutes of the game, both offenses traded two-point leads. By the first quarter's media time-out, the Lynx held a two-point edge over the Colonels. Out of the break,
Bailey Rucker nailed the game's first long ball, sparking a 10-0 scoring run that would close the first quarter. Heading into the second period, the score sat at Centre 18, Rhodes 12.
- After both teams suffered from a mid-quarter scoring drought, the Lynx mustered a late 5-0 score-run that would put them within one point of the Colonels.
Payton Herold stretched the gap to three, netting a quick lay-up. Rhodes quickly responded, netting a jumper, and solidifying the first-half score at Centre 24, Rhodes 23.
- The Lynx swiftly commenced the second-half scoring, going on a 10-3 score run by the first media break. Nearly doubling the Colonel's points in the third quarter, the score sat at Rhodes 43, Centre 35 entering the final period.
- After a quick lay-up, Rhodes took the first ten-point lead of the game a minute into the quarter. After a Colonel's time-out, Centre suffered from a detrimental dry spell that would last for nearly 7 minutes.
Makya Grinter broke the drought, hitting a late three and setting the game's score at Rhodes 53, Centre 43.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre held two players in the double figures for points. Rucker netted 16 points while
Emma Rose Vincent followed with 12.
- Grinter more than tripled all other athletes in steals with seven.
- After going 16-18 at the line, Centre tied their season high free-throw shot percentage with an 88 percent.
- From their combined nine steals, the Colonels turned 11 positive points.
