Game Recap: Softball | | Jake Renie, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

Softball stays undefeated in SAA play with two Saturday wins

DANVILLE, Ky. – After sweeping both Rhodes and Hendrix in the last couple weeks, the Centre softball team (11-7, 8-0 SAA) took the field once more this week with a double-header against the Millsaps Majors. The Colonels kept their undefeated record in the Southern Athletic Association after Saturday's contests, winning both games that included an extra-inning comeback.

GAME ONE: Centre 4, Millsaps 3 (8 innings)
- Junior pitcher Lucy Baseheart would have an incredibly strong start on the mound for the Gold & White, holding the Majors scoreless in the game's first four innings. Baseheart struck out five batters during that span, including three in the first inning and three-consecutive innings of three-up-three-down.
- After Hailey Watson would single through the right side and steal second base, senior Sawyer Lecius would break the tie with a single up the middle to drive in Watson.
- Lecius would drive in another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending a hit hard enough to the shortstop that would secure a clean catch-and-throw. Lecius' reach to first base would cause Cheney Floyd to cross home plate on the play for a two-run lead.
- The Majors would strike next in the top of the seventh, tying the game with two quick runs.
- Millsaps would gain the lead after the game reached extra innings, putting up one more in the top of the eighth to put the Colonels on the clock.
- Watson would get back on base for the Gold & White would an opening single in the bottom of the eighth, later advancing to second base off Kaylee Gregory's sacrifice bunt. Floyd would put another runner on base with her single, but the blooper into shallow left field would force Watson to stick on second.
- Izzy Rushing would send a booming shot to right field, earning two RBI's on her standing triple as she brought home Floyd and Watson for the walk-off win.

GAME TWO: Centre 5, Millsaps 1
- Andrea Searcy would step on the mound for the Colonels to start game two, forcing the Majors to go 1-2-3 in the game's first two innings that included a pair of swinging strikeouts.
- Millsaps would catch wind first with a run in the top of the third, taking a lead that wouldn't last long.
- The Gold & White would strike next in the bottom of the third innings, Rylie Bentley reaching on a fielder's choice with her hit driving home Lecius to tie the game.
- The two-teams would trade punch-for-punch until the bottom of the fifth, where Centre would smash through the game-winning run as Searcy would hit the ball in a bases-loaded situation to drive in Rushing.
- Centre would slam three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, Tori Candler and Rushing each earning an RBI during the eight-batter inning. Junior Lydia Rice would also garner an RBI to the team's total, pinch hitting with Kaylee Gregory sitting on second base before being driven home off Rice's double.
- Searcy would earn a complete game after bringing down the top of the seventh, including her sixth strikeout of the game on the final Major she faced.

UP NEXT
Centre will have one more game against the Majors before wrapping up the weekend, playing a Sunday, March 12 contest in Danville, Ky. That final game of the series will kick off at 12 p.m. ET.
