DANVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday afternoon, Centre men's lacrosse hosted their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) conference opener, hosting Berry. After trailing early, the Colonels completed a storybook comeback, finding a golden goal in
David Caldwell during the third sudden death overtime period.

Will Hubbs opened the day's scoring, landing a quick goal 46 seconds into the contest. The Vikings quickly gained control, tallying four unanswered goals to take an early lead.
Ryan Black cut the score deficit in half, placing a last second goal to end the quarter.
- Berry opened the second quarter with two successive goals just a minute apart. Hubbs retaliated with two consecutive goals of his own, bringing Centre within two entering halftime.
- Out of the break, Hubbs continued his score run after scoring the first goal of the half. Nearing the end of the quarter, Centre's
David Caldwell tied the game with a second chance goal following a ground ball from a deflected shot. In the next possession, Berry repossessed their lead entering the final quarter.
- The Vikings extended their hold to two with the opening goal of the period. The Colonels answered when
Miguel Sayers set Hubbs up for his sixth goal of the game. For the next five minutes, Centre and Berry answered each other's goals. With regulation running down, Centre's
Paxton Brown collected a crucial face-off possession, allowing Black to place the tying goal, sending both teams into, what would be, multiple overtime periods.
- In the overtime periods, Centre's defense was a stronghold. In his first collegiate start, rookie
Hayden Burns put up imperative saves that kept Centre alive during sudden death. Junior,
Gavin Fields forced two well-timed turnovers, returning key possession to the Colonels. After nearly three full overtime periods, Hubbs teamed up with Caldwell to net the golden goal, solidifying the Colonels as victors.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hubbs led the game in both goals and points. The senior put together eight points after netting six and assisting two. Caldwell followed with four goals. Black was just behind him with two.
- On defense,
Gavin Fields forced three turnovers, two of which were crucial in the overtime periods. He led the Colonels in ground balls, taking seven.
- In first collegiate start, rookie
Hayden Burns matched the team's season high of 18 saves, eight of which were in a dominant second half performance.
- Centre favored in clears, completing 24 of 26.
- Almost a year ago today, Centre took down SAA's Birmingham Southern in a thrilling overtime showing. Coincidentally in that game, Hubbs opened the game's scoring exactly 46 seconds in and Caldwell concluded it, netting that game's golden goal.

Centre men's lacrosse will travel to the Carolinas for their spring break. They take on non-conference opponent, Pfeiffer, on Wednesday Mar. 23, before returning home for a pair of home games to close the week.
