MISENHEIMER, N.C.- On Thursday,
men's lacrosse traveled north to compete against the Falcons of Pfeiffer University. After a slow start, the Colonels fell short in their fourth quarter rally by a score of 14-13.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Rolling off the crease, senior
Will Hubbs notched Centre's first goal but not before Pfeiffer tallied a point in their opening possession. The Falcons followed with three unanswered goals, forcing the Colonels to regroup. Seven minutes in,
Duncan MacDonald set up
David Caldwell for the quarter's last goal, making it 4-2 entering the second period.
- The Falcons opened the next quarter with three uncontested goals in the first five minutes. Centre bounced back with two goals in less than five seconds. Duo Caldwell and MacDonald teamed up for the first score, followed by
Dylan Croft up the middle off his own face-off. Pfeiffer put in two more just before
Christian Underhill planted an unassisted goal to close the first half.
- Pfeiffer continued their offensive runs into the second half, netting two before Centre found their first. Hubbs tallied his second goal unassisted, bringing the Colonels within five. The Gold & White closed the period with two goals right off their opponent's crease.
Mick Ginnity was posted up just off the crease when MacDonald connected with him. In a nearly identical fashion,
Ryan Black found Caldwell near the net, making it 12-8 entering the fourth period.
- The Gold & White stormed into the final quarter. Caldwell continued his success on the right side with two back-to-back goals just a minute apart. Black followed his lead with two successive scores of his own, subsequently tying the game. Seven minutes in, Pfeiffer found their first goal, but the Colonels' defense responded with a clear turned goal for long stick midfielder
Graham Robbins. With time running out, the Falcons regained control with a late shot that would ultimately conclude the game's scoring. At the end of regulation, the score read Pfeiffer 14, Centre 13.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Caldwell led the game in goals with five. Hubbs and Black each planted two while Underhill, Croft, Ginnity, and Robbins set in one apiece. MacDonald led in assists with two while Underhill and Ginnity both helped on one goal each.
- On defense, Robbins fronted the Gold & White in caused turnovers with two.
- At the face-off, Croft won 19 of 25 taken. He added 11 ground balls, leading the game in that statistical category.
- In the crease,
Hayden Burns and
Sammy Zickel split time. Together, the duo collected 15 saves, Burns stopping 13, Zickel stuffing two.
- Centre completed 15-20 clears, their opponents finishing 20-21.

Centre men's lacrosse returns home to wrap up their 2023 spring break with a pair of back-to-back home games. They host Spalding on Mar.25 right before turning around to face SAA's Birmingham Southern on Mar. 26.
