Softball falls to #5 Berry

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre softball team (12-9, 9-2 SAA) kicked off their spring break season with a double-header series against no. 5-ranked Berry Vikings on Saturday, playing two of the three games series over the weekend. The Gold & White were able to put together several runs against the league-leading Vikings, but ultimately fell on the losing side in both games.

GAME ONE: Berry 9, Centre 1 (5 innings)
- Starting pitcher Lucy Baseheart kicked off the game strong on the mound, slotting Berry three-up-three-down in the first inning of play. The junior struck out a Viking in the inning, along with forcing a ground out and a fly out.
- Berry gained the advantage in the game's second inning, slotting four runs on the Colonels for an early lead.
- Down in their final at-bats in the bottom of the fifth inning, Izzy Rushing were able to place the Colonels on the board before the game's conclusion by driving in Sunnie Woske across home plate on a single.

GAME TWO: Berry 10, Centre 4
- After Berry took an early lead in the first inning, Centre would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning as Andrea Searcy's sacrifice fly drove home Rylie Bentley.
- The Vikings would go on a run over the next handful of innings, earning a 7-1 lead after the top of the sixth.
- The Gold & White wouldn't go down without a fight, posting three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning that kicked off with a Searcy double to center field.
- Abby Duncan came in soon after and placed a live ball in the infield, the hit hard enough to drive in Tori Candler from third base.
- Morgan Tabor would drive in the Colonels' final run of the afternoon with a single to cut the lead to three, her hit driving in Searcy from second base on the play.
