DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's lacrosse team opened their 2023 spring break on Saturday morning, hosting Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Hendrix College. With seven different scorers, the Colonels collected their first conference win after thrashing the Warriors 21-6.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre erupted in the opening quarter, finding three different scorers in the opening six minutes of play.
Haley Rice opened the scoring and by the sixth goal of the game, the sophomore already owned a hat-trick.
Ella Treinen and
Emma Botts tallied three goals together while
Lily Gahm joined Rice with a hat-trick by the end of the first quarter.
- Opening the second period, the Colonels continued their domination, achieving running clock with their first goal. By the end of the first half, Treinen collected a hat-trick while
Colleen Stahl bagged her first goal of the game. Entering halftime, Centre led Hendrix 14-1.
- Out of the break,
Isa Stumpf collected her first goal of the season after forcing a turnover during a Hendrix clear attempt. Centre would find another goal in Rice, but just after, the Warriors notched their second point of the game. In response, Gahm connected with
Mary Margaret Bryant to bring the score to 17-2 entering the final quarter.
- The fourth period proved to be the Warrior's best offensive performance yet.
Addie Lewis started the scoring, but Hendrix would respond in the next possession. For the rest of the game, the Hendrix would answer every one of Centre's goals. Eventually Hendrix would break the pattern with two consecutive points, but the game ultimately remained in running clock. Rice, the game's undisputed leading scorer, concluded the game with her seventh goal, finalizing the score at Centre 21, Hendrix 6.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rice led the game in goals with seven, adding two ground balls, one caused turnover, and a draw control. Gahm matched her in points after netting three goals, adding two assists.Treinen was the last Colonel with a hat-trick. She tallied three goals and an assist.
- All together, Centre possessed seven different scorers, one of which was Stump who collected her first goal of the season.
- On defense,
Skylan Thompson fronted the Gold & White in both ground balls (7) and caused turnovers (4).
- The Colonels favored in draw controls having 17 to the opposing's 12.
- Centre took the most 50-50 balls, scooping 33 to the Warrior's 10.
- The Gold & White quadrupled their opponents in shots taken, attempting 43 compared to Henrix's 10.
- In goal
Gracey Falk held the Warriors to just six points, simultaneously leading the Colonels to a 100% success rate on clears (17-17).
