Centre women's lacrosse downs the Tigers at home

DANVILLE, Ky. – On Sunday, the Centre women's lacrosse team hosted their second game in just 24 hours. Hosting Wittenberg, the Colonels' early points secured their second victory of the 2023 spring break.  

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Wittenberg began the day's scoring, netting two goals in the initial five minutes of play. Ella Treinen and Haley Rice later opened a 3-0 score run that would put Centre ahead for the remainder of the contest. By the end of the first quarter, Treinen's hat trick assisted to the Colonels' 6-3 point advantage.  
- Launching the next period, Erin Reynolds tallied two sequential goals that forced the Tigers to burn a time-out. Proving successful, Wittenberg closed the first half by cutting the point deficit to just three. 
- Out of halftime, both teams quickly recorded goals, Centre placing two, Wittenberg landing one. After their hasty start, both teams entered a nearly 11-minute scoring stall that would conclude the period. 
- Entering the final quarter, Centre held a 10-4 advantage over the visiting Tigers. Just a minute in, Wittenberg initiated a 4-1 score run that would bring them within two possessions of the Colonels. In response, Emma Botts and Rice tallied two cushion goals, extending Centre's lead to five. In the final minutes, the Tigers would attempt a comeback with a 2-0 run but by end of regulation, the final score sat at 13-11, Centre favoring. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Treinen tied for the game's leading scorer with four. The junior added six draw controls, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. 
- Gahm was the second Colonel with a hat-trick, having three goals, she added an assist. The Kentucky native simultaneously led Centre in caused turnovers with six.
- Defender Skylan Thompson once again fronted the Colonels in ground balls, grabbing six.
- Centre's defense dominated in both clears and 50-50 balls. The Colonels were able to complete 20 of 21 clears while holding their opponents to just 17 of 32. The Gold & White scooped 31 ground balls compared to the Tiger's 19.

Centre will have three days of rest before they return to action on South Turf. They host Whitman on Wednesday, Mar. 22, at 11 a.m ET.
