DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's lacrosse team hosted game three of their five game home stent on Wednesday morning. Taking on Whitman College, the Colonels succumbed to a late comeback from the Blues, moving to 5-5 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Blues' offensive opened the day's scoring, firing off four uninterrupted goals that forced Centre to use an early timeout. Out of the break,
Haley Rice notched the Colonels' first goal with the helper from
Lily Gahm.
Addie Lewis followed with her own goal, but the Blues responded with a late shot to make it 6-2 entering the next quarter.
- Centre's offense caught fire in the second period with four consecutive goals. Possessing all of the quarter's scoring, the Colonels made it a tie game, at 6-6, entering halftime.
- The third quarter was the highest scoring period of the game, Centre netting seven while the Blues managed five. Both teams traded points for much of the quarter but four late uncontested goals from
Isa Stumpf,
Emma Botts, and Rice gave the Colonels a two-point buffer entering the final quarter.
- Rice opened the fourth period's scoring, simultaneously handing Centre their largest lead yet. With six minutes remaining in regulation, the Blues tallied six unanswered goals to ultimately complete a comeback. When time ran out, the score sat at Whitman 19, Centre 16.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rice led the Gold & White in goals, matching her career high of seven. She added five ground balls and an assist. Gahm was the second highest scoring Centre athlete with six points. The junior set in three goals, attaching three assists. Lewis, Botts, Stumpf,
Ella Treinen, and
Grace Aug also found themselves in the scoring column for Centre.
- Doubling Whitman in ground balls, Centre took 33 while the Blues collected 11.
- Whitman just edged Centre out in shots taken, having 35 to the Colonels' 31.
- In goal,
Gracey Falk tallied five saves and led the Colonels to 19 of 22 successful clears.

The Colonels will remain at home to host SAA's Oglethorpe on Saturday Mar. 25th before hitting the road to face Rhodes on Apr. 1.
