DANVILLE, Ky- Men's lacrosse hosted Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Birmingham Southern (BSC) on Sunday afternoon. The Colonels outscored the Panthers in the first half, but a fourth quarter falter set the final score at 16-14 in BSC's favor.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In the opening quarter, sophomore
David Caldwell directed the Colonels' offense, having part in every goal of the period. He alone notched the first two goals, adding two assists just minutes later. He connected with
Miguel Sayers on the first, tying the game at even threes. The Panthers repossessed their lead with two consecutive goals, but Caldwell found
Max Speers to set in the final point of the period.
- The Colonels opened the second quarter swiftly, tallying five back-to-back goals.
Ryan Black took the first goal, tying the game yet again.
Will Hubbs netted the next with the help from Sayers and just a minute later,
Mick Ginnity spotted Speers wide open in front of the crease. Later, BSC left
Duncan MacDonald undefended, presenting an easy one-on-one opportunity with the goalie. Speers concluded the run with another easy drive up the middle but a late goal from BSC froze the score at 9-6 entering halftime.
- Both teams traded score runs in the third quarter. The Panthers laid in three goals to open the quarter; Centre planted two to close it.
Paxton Brown moved the goalie to find the first,
Christian Underhill assisted Hubbs for the second.
- Centre initiated the final quarter with three unbroken goals. Black set up
Davis Wilmes for an easy man-up goal off the crease. Ginnity displayed his precision, netting the next goal with hardly any angle. Black closed the run with an unchallenged goal up the middle. In the last nine minutes of play, BSC rattled off six successive goals to ultimately win the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Speers led the Colonels in goals with three, Caldwell and Hubbs just behind him with two apiece. MacDonald, Ginnity, Wilmes, Sayers, and Brown each scored one goal.
- Centre edged our BSC in ground balls, taking 37 opposed to the Panthers' 31.
Dylan Croft fronted Centre in 50-50 balls with seven.
- In goal,
Sammy Zickel collected 17 saves and conducted the defense to 12-19 clears.

Alex Mozingo and Croft split time at the face-off. Together the two won 37 possessions, BSC collecting 31.
