MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Centre men's lacrosse hit the road for the first travel game of their 2023 conference season. After a second quarter scoring surge, the Colonels fended off SAA's Rhodes, improving to 2-1 in the league, 7-3 overall.
HIGHLIGHTS
-Five minutes into the contest, the Lynx opened the game's scoring but less than a minute later,
Duncan MacDonald connected with
Ryan Black to make it an even ball game. Rhodes would close the quarter with one additional goal, moving the score to 2-1 entering the second period.
- Trailing after the initial quarter, the Colonels were able to garner some momentum in the second period with a 5-0 score run, stealing the lead.
Mick Ginnity lands the first with the help from
Will Hubbs. A possession later,
Davis Wilmes set up
Ridr Knowlton for an open look at goal, followed by an unassisted goal from Black.
Miguel Sayers closed the run with a crease side goal, increasing Centre's hold to three. Rhodes would collect a goal but Centre followed with two more, the first from Black, the second from Hubbs. A late goal from the Lynx put the score at 8-5 entering halftime.
- Out of the break, Centre maintained their offensive control, outscoring Rhodes 4-1 in the first ten minutes of the half. The Lynx once again closed the quarter with late goals, putting the score at 12-8 entering the final period of play.
- Knowlton teamed up with Black to place the first goal of the quarter less than a minute in. Rhodes answered with three consecutive goals, bringing them within two possessions of the Colonels. MacDonald netted the next goal for Centre, proving vital as the Lynx outscored the Colonels 2-1 in the game's final minutes. At end of regulation, the score closed at 14-13, Centre favoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Black led the game in scoring with five goals. Speers trailed with three, Knowlton just behind him with two. MacDonald, Ginnity, Hubbs, and Sayers each collected a singular goal.

Dylan Croft led the Colonels in both face-off wins and groundballs. He went 13-19, adding eight scoops.
- In goal,
Sammy Zickel fronted the game in saves with ten. He led the Gold & White's defense to 13-19 clears.
