Softball extends SAA win streak to five

CONWAY, Ark. – After sweeping the Rhodes Lynx last week, the Centre softball team (7-6, 5-0 SAA) kicked off another weekend of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a round trip to Hendrix. The Colonels took on a double header to start the series on Saturday, winning both games to extend their conference win streak to five.

GAME ONE: Centre 8, Hendrix 6
- The Gold & White erupted in the game's first inning, putting together three runs for the early lead. Freshman Izzy Rushing led off the game with a home run to left center in her first at bat, Emily Lammers putting a triple to right that sent home Kaylee Gregory later in the contest.
- After Hendrix would put one on the board later, Abby Duncan's single in the second inning would be just enough time to advance a bases-loaded situation, earning an RBI with Cheney Floyd coming in to score.
- Duncan would later snag a pair of RBI's in the fourth inning, doubling out left to bring in both Floyd and Watson to extend the lead to three.
- The Colonels would bolster their score to eight the next couple innings, Floyd and Layne Ogle each driving in runs to earn a five-score lead.
- Starting pitcher Lucy Baseheart would earn a complete game and the win after shutting down the final inning, both of the final two batters being put out by Duncan over at second base.

GAME TWO: Centre 8, Hendrix 4
- The Colonels had their bats running hot to start game 2, Sam Rogers breaking the game's tie by sending a single across the right side to bring Tori Candler home.
- Searcy worked as the starting pitcher for Centre on the way to her third win of the season, putting aside the game's first six Hendrix batters that included two swinging strikeouts in the second inning.
- The third inning would feature four RBI's from the Gold & White, Andrea Searcy singling right to send home Watson and Gregory pounding a double to left enter to clear a bases-loaded at bat.
- After the Warriors tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, Candler was able to add an insurance run through her single to drive in Rushing for the Colonels' final run of the game.

UP NEXT
The Gold & White will have one more game left against Hendrix before they travel back north to Kentucky, facing off against the Warriors at 1 p.m. ET for the final game of the series. That contest will be in Conway, Ark., on Sunday, March 5.
