SEWANEE, Tenn. – After splitting the double header yesterday against the Sewanee Tigers, the Centre softball team (13-12, 10-5 SAA) stepped back onto the diamond one more time on Sunday with the final game of the series. After the Colonels garnered momentum late in the game, the Tigers bested the Gold & White to send them home on a 6-5 final score.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels couldn't contain Sewanee in the first inning of play, the Tigers posted two runs within the game's first inning.
- Freshman
Emily Lammers would cut the deficit to just one in the third inning, sending a two-out single far enough to bring
Tori Candler across home plate from second base.
- Sewanee would extend their lead in the fourth inning, pushing a three-run margin.
- The Colonels would dwindle the lead with a pair of home runs in the fifth inning, freshman duo
Izzy Rushing and Lammers each sending a solo homerun out of the park to put Sewanee's lead at one.
- The Gold & White would take advantage of a big mistake by the Tigers later in the fifth,
Sunnie Woske getting caught in a pickle situation with two outs that looked like it would end the inning. Woske's maneuvers would cause an error by Sewanee, the missed pass long enough to bring both
Andrea Searcy and Woske across home plate for the one-run lead.
- The celebrating wouldn't last long, Sewanee coming back in the sixth inning to tie the game and take the lead for the final runs of the game.
