Centre ends regular season road contests in Maryville doubleheader

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Centre softball team (14-18, 10-8 SAA) took on their final road trip of the regular season on Thursday, making up a non-conference doubleheader set of games against the Maryville Scots. The Colonels were able to put runs on the board in their visit to the south, but couldn't come away with a victory in either match.

GAME ONE: Maryville 8, Centre 1
- Starting pitcher Lucy Baseheart had a strong first inning on the mound, striking out the first Scots batter and quickly getting out the other two.
- Maryville got the first strike in the contest, picking up a three-run lead by the end of the third inning.
- After freshman Tori Candler would send a two-base hit to right-center field, junior Andrea Searcy would put a ball on the opposite side of the outfield to drive her teammate home and cut the deficit to two.
- The lead would extend soon after, Maryville posting five runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to seven.

GAME TWO: Maryville 3, Centre 2
- After the Scots earned a triple in their first at-bat, Searcy's composure on the mound kept the score at evens by getting the next three batters out by a swinging strikeout, a pop-up ball back to her and another high ball to Emily Lammers in center field.
- The Gold & White would come close to striking in the top of the second inning, Cheney Floyd pushing a two-out single to center field to put Kaylee Gregory on third base.
- The junior's performance on the mound continued to be strong, striking out two more batters by swinging in the bottom of the third alone.
- Hailey Watson was able to break the tie in the top of the fifth inning, capitalizing off a Scots' error to swing across home plate.
- After Floyd opened the inning with a single up the middle and Candler walked, Searcy would earn another RBI on the day would another double to push the lead to two.
- Maryville wouldn't let the lead stay long, placing three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After Thursday's games, the Colonels have secured at least one multi-base hit in five of the last seven games.
