Softball honors Cobb and Lecius on Senior Day

DANVILLE, Ky. – After taking on the Maryville Scots just two days ago, the Centre softball team (15-19, 10-8 SAA) competed in one more nonconference matchup before heading off to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament. They hosted the Asbury Eagles for Senior Day in celebrating Sawyer Lecius and Branan Cobb, the two programs each taking a win in the pair of games on Saturday.

GAME ONE: Centre 6, Asbury 1
- The Gold & White struck hot early in the game, Izzy Rushing leading off the game for Centre with a double out to left center. The freshman would later reach home on a wild pitch. Andrea Searcy would later drive in another run in the game's first inning, pushing a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home Cheney Floyd.
- Searcy would start on the mound in the game, putting on one of the best performances in her career for Centre. The junior would strike out two different Asbury batters in each of the first three innings, eventually finishing the game with a career-high nine strikeouts.
- The Colonels would one-up themselves in the fourth inning, Layne Ogle singling past the third basement to drive home Kaylee Gregory. With Ogle on base, Rushing would slam her fifth home run of the year across left field to pump a five-run lead.
- Emily Lammers would push in Centre's final run of the contest, stretching across home plate on a passed ball to extend the lead to six.
- The Eagles would break the egg on their side of the scoreboard, but they'd only amass the one before being taken down for the Colonels' 15th win of the year.

GAME TWO: Asbury 7, Centre 2
- Asbury would flip the script at the start of game two, catching a quick four-run lead by the third inning.
- The Colonels would have their own bats heat up in the bottom of the third inning, Gregory capitalizing on a wild pitch to earn Centre's first run.
- Due to Layne Ogle also advancing to third base on the previously mentioned wild pitch, the freshman would stretch across home plate on Rushing's sacrifice fly just one batter later.
- Despite Lucy Baseheart striking out two batters swinging in the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles would pick up their lead to five to close out the contest in the Colonels' final regular season game.

UP NEXT
In a spring season that showcased the Colonels' first 10 conference win since 2015, the Gold & White look to take their no. 3-seed into the 2023 SAA Softball Tournament next weekend. They'll first face off against the sixth-seeded Rhodes Lynx (12-24, 4-14 SAA) in the first round of the double-elimination tournament, that game taking place on Friday, April 28 in Birmingham, Ala., with a 3:30 p.m. ET time set for the first pitch.
