Centre falls to Panthers in season opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's soccer team (0-1) kicked off the JR Hoe Invitational on Friday night against the Hanover Panthers (1-0), hosted by Spalding University. The Colonels were able to amount offensive pressure in the second half but couldn't amass a win against the Panthers on a 2-0 final score.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold & White were the first to take a shot at the net, Sam Brunner almost placing a goal in the bottom left of the net in the 15th minute of the contest that was eventually saved by the Panthers' keeper.
- Hanover was able to place their first score of the game in the 19th minute to take the lead.
- The Panthers extend their lead on Centre to start the second half, putting in a goal in the 56th minute.
- The Colonels wouldn't go down without a fight in the contest, putting up four shots in the final five minutes of the game. Drew Davidson would try to sneak a score in the bottom-left side of the net to end the contest, but the goalie for Hanover wouldn't allow Centre to score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jacob Camacho stood in the net for Centre in Friday's contest, the senior making his eighth start of his career.
- Newcomer Alec McAlister found the ball several times in his first contest with the Gold & White, the Evansville transfer putting up three shots in his 68 minutes of action.
- The Colonels' double-digit shots (11) in the 90-minute contest is a feat the team had in six games last season, looking to continue the pressure later this weekend.
