Women’s soccer takes down the Pioneers in Wednesday-night showdown

DANVILLE, Ky. – Coming off the victory against Trine last Sunday, the Centre women's soccer team (4-1-1) faced off against the undefeated Transylvania Pioneers (3-1-1) in a match on Amend Field Wednesday night. The Colonels' high-octane offense in the first 50 minutes of the contest was too much for Transylvania to overcome, winning on a 3-1 final score.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- It didn't take long to excite the home field crowd, sophomore Riley Givens putting the Gold & White's first shot of the game in the back of the net for the early lead. The Louisville, Ky., native put the Colonels ahead in the fourth minute of the contest.
- After two more Centre shots in less than three minutes by Cara Francke and Givens, junior goalkeeper would garner her first save of the night on a Pioneer shot in the game's 13th minute. Thomas saved the shot from in the middle of the net.
- It wouldn't take long for Centre to extend their lead after the 1-0 score in the first half, Bella Nelson slamming a score in the top-right section of the net off the rebound from Annabel Justice's shot.
- After another shot on goal from Justice and two more shots from Francke and Nelson, the Pioneers would put themselves on the board with a goal in the 62nd minute of play.
- With less than five minutes until the end, senior Buckley Sparks would have a wide-open cross perfectly place to sophomore Alexis Kronenthal, the Crestwood, Ky., softly tapping the ball up in the air to lightly drop in the top-right corner of the net for Centre's third and final score of the day.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Nelson's goal for the Colonels marked her fourth of the season, her third goal in the last four games.
- Givens' goal to open the game marked a monumental moment for her, the score marking the first collegiate goal of her career.
- The career-firsts didn't stop with just Givens, Sparks' assist to Nelson was credited as the first combo in her career wearing the Gold & White uniform.
- The Colonels have been consistent on offense in the last three games, tossing 14 shots total in each contest during that time span.
- Centre continues their all-time win streak against the Pioneers, last facing them in the 2016 season where Destinie Graves scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute.
